How can I improve my programming logic and become able to build Python/Django projects independently?

I recently completed my Bachelor of Engineering and I am currently focusing on improving my Python programming skills.

I understand Python syntax and basic data structures such as lists, tuples, sets, and dictionaries. However, I struggle with problem-solving and programming logic.

For example, I can understand the structure of a Django project and follow tutorials to build something like an Employee CRUD application. I know concepts such as models, views, URLs, templates, migrations, and Django commands, but I often struggle when I have to decide what logic to write and how to implement a feature without following a tutorial or looking at an existing solution.

I often need to watch videos, search for examples, or ask ChatGPT for help. My goal is not simply to memorize code; I want to become capable of breaking a problem into smaller steps, designing the logic, and writing the solution myself.

What is an effective way to develop this skill? Should I focus more on Python problem-solving exercises, build small projects from scratch, study algorithms/data structures, or follow a different learning approach?

I would especially appreciate advice from experienced Python/Django developers about how they developed the ability to build projects independently.
